UK Visa Announcement:

1. Changes to the English language requirement:

From 1st January 2021, the UK government has updated the English language requirement for certain visa applications. Applicants from majority English speaking countries such as the US, Australia, and Canada will no longer need to prove their English language proficiency. However, those from non-English speaking countries will still need to provide evidence of their English language skills.

2. Flexibility for switching visa routes:

The UK government is now allowing flexibility for those who wish to switch visa routes while in the UK. This applies to those who entered the country on a short-term visa and now wish to apply for a long-term visa, or those who entered on a study visa and wish to work in the UK. This change will make it easier for individuals to apply for the appropriate visa while in the UK.

3. Extension for those unable to return home:

For those who are currently in the UK but unable to return home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the UK government is allowing an extension of their visa until 31st January 2021. This applies to those with visas that expired after 24th January 2020 and who are unable to leave the UK due to travel restrictions or self-isolation.

4. Priority services for NHS workers:

UK visa applications for NHS workers will now be given priority. This is to ensure that medical professionals can enter the country quickly and easily to support the NHS during the pandemic. The government has also launched a new fast-track visa application process for eligible NHS workers and their families.

5. Updates to the immigration health surcharge:

The UK government has also announced updates to the immigration health surcharge. From October 2020, the surcharge will increase from ￡400 to ￡624 per year for adult applicants and from ￡300 to ￡470 per year for children. This surcharge must be paid by non-EEA nationals at the time of applying for a visa and provides them with access to the UK's National Health Service.

6. Introduction of new graduate route:

From summer 2021, the UK government will introduce a new graduate route for international students who have completed their studies in the UK. This will allow eligible graduates to stay in the UK for up to two years to work or look for work. This new route aims to attract the best global talent to the UK and will be open to all graduates, including those from EU countries.
