英美签证数据公布
On September 30th, the United States Department of State released the annual visa statistics for Fiscal Year 2019. The data shows that the US issued a total of 9,518,923 non-immigrant visas and 462,422 immigrant visas. Meanwhile, the British government published the visa statistics for Q2 2019, which revealed that the number of UK visa applications for visitor, study, and work purposes had increased compared to the same period in 2018.
US visa statistics
The US visa statistics for FY2019 showed that temporary work visas, tourist visas, and student visas were the three most popular categories. Specifically, the US issued 2,151,152 H1-B visas, 8,019,481 B1/B2 visas, and 397,423 F-1 visas in FY2019. The top five nationalities that received the most non-immigrant visas were China, Mexico, India, Brazil, and Colombia. However, the overall number of non-immigrant visas issued decreased by 77,027 compared to the previous fiscal year.
On the other hand, the number of immigrant visas granted by the US declined significantly in FY2019. The total number of immigrant visas, including immediate relatives, family preference, employment-based, and diversity visas, dropped by 35,065 or 7% from the previous year. The top five countries of origin for US immigrant visa recipients were Mexico, India, China, Philippines, and Cuba.
UK visa statistics
The British government published the visa statistics for the second quarter of 2019, which showed that the number of UK visa applications had increased compared to Q2 2018. Specifically, there were 2.9 million visa applications in Q2 2019, a rise of 6% compared to the same period last year. The majority of the applications were for visitor visas (59%), followed by study visas (25%) and work visas (15%).
The top nationalities that applied for UK visas in Q2 2019 were China, Russia, and the United States. The number of Chinese visa applications increased by 14%, while the number of Russian visa applications increased by 17%. In contrast, the number of US visa applications declined by 3% compared to the same period in 2018.
Conclusion
The release of these visa statistics provides an insight into the movement of people across borders for various purposes, including work, study, tourism, and family reunification. While the US remains a popular destination for non-immigrant visa recipients, the number of immigrant visas issued by the US has declined. The UK, on the other hand, has seen an increase in visa applications for Q2 2019, particularly from China and Russia.
