UK Visa Application Centre News: Changes and Updates

Appointment Booking

All applicants will now be required to book an appointment at a Visa Application Centre before attending. Appointments can be made online or by phone, and are required for all visa categories.

Biometric Data Collection

All applicants will be required to provide biometric data (fingerprints and a digital photo) as part of their application, unless they are exempt. This data will be collected at a Visa Application Centre as part of the visa application process.

New Visa Categories

There are two new visa categories available to applicants:

The Global Talent visa, which has replaced the Tier 1 (Exceptional Talent) visa

The Student route visa, which has replaced the Tier 4 (General) visa

Changes to the Health Surcharge

The Health Surcharge, which all non-EEA nationals must pay as part of their visa application, has increased from ￡400 to ￡624 per year. This change applies to all visa applications made on or after 27 October 2020.
